Reducing the Signs of Ageing Without Surgery

As we age, our skin loses its laxity and firmness and develops fine lines and wrinkles. It isn’t uncommon to want to maintain a youthful appearance, but naturally, our bodies will begin to show changes as collagen and elastin production slows.

Taking care of your skin from a young age with a proper at-home skincare routine is one way to prevent fine lines and age spots from developing, however, in-office treatments are the most effective way to improve age-related concerns.

What Can Radiofrequency Therapy Treat?

Radiofrequency therapy is commonly used as a non-invasive method of improving the skin’s appearance and improving its texture, tone, and elasticity. This typically means reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and forehead.

At Central Optometry, we use Cynosure’s TempSure Envi to improve crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, smile lines, and many other skin conditions.

How Does Radiofrequency Therapy Work?

Radiofrequency therapy is often referred to as radiofrequency skin tightening as it can help your skin appear “tighter” by improving its elasticity. The treatment involves using radiofrequency energy waves to heat the dermis or the deep layer of your skin. The heat stimulates the production of collagen, which gives your skin its natural firmness and elasticity.

The device used will release electromagnetic waves into your skin, heating it between 50 and 75°C (122 – 167°F). Maintaining a temperature over 46°C (115°F) for over 3 minutes causes your body to release heat-shock proteins, which stimulates new collagen fibres.

The procedure usually takes under 60 minutes, and most patients report it as being relatively painless. A gel is applied to the skin and then the TempSure Envi device is used to heat the skin, stimulating collagen production.
You may experience some mild swelling, redness, or tingling following the treatment. Any discomfort should be minimal, short-lived, and should improve within a few hours.
